Chemical behavior of tungstate solutions. Part 1. A spectroscopic survey of the species involved

This study is focused on the composition and the evolution of tungstate ions solutions as a function of pH and increasing concentrations. The Raman analysis showed that, during the titration of the tungstate solutions, WO4 2−, HWO4 − ions and probably W2O7 2−, HW2O7 2− and H2W2O7 solvated species could exist in aqueous solutions. For diluted solutions, additions of a strong acid does not cause any precipitation, whereas the formation of the unstable solid tungstic acid (H2WO4 or WO3·H2O) could occur in concentrated solutions

Secure Silicon: Towards Virtual Prototyping

Evaluating security vulnerabilities of software implementations at design step is of primary importance for applications developers, while it has received litte attention from scientific communauty. In this paper, we describe virtual prototyping of an implementation of Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), aiming to make it secure against first-order horizontal and vertical side-channel attacks (SCAs). Reproducing information leakage as close to reality as possible requires bit- and clock-cycle accuracy, we got with Mentor Graphics Modelsim tool, simulating the execution of the ECC software implementations on PULPino, an open-source 32-bit microcontroller based on the recently released RISC-V instruction set architecture. For each clock cycle, we compute the number of bit toggles into microcontroller's registers, an image of the power consumption, and watch the program counter to identify the assembly instruction executed, then the corresponding C function. We first start with a naive double-and-add implementation relying on cryptographic primitives of the mbed TLS library, formerly PolarSSL before acquisition by ARM. The virtual analysis pinpoints differences in the way the double function on one side and the add function on the other side manage variables and internal operations, which can be used for horizontal SCAs. We propose some modifications of the C code, hence independent of the considered microcontroller, with an overhead extremely small compared to that of the double-and-add-always countermeasure. Investigating Efficient Deep Learning Architectures For Side-Channel Attacks on AES

Over the past few years, deep learning has been getting progressively more popular for the exploitation of side-channel vulnerabilities in embedded cryptographic applications, as it offers advantages in terms of the amount of attack traces required for effective key recovery. A number of effective attacks using neural networks have already been published, but reducing their cost in terms of the amount of computing resources and data required is an ever-present goal, which we pursue in this work. We focus on the ANSSI Side-Channel Attack Database (ASCAD), and produce a JAX-based framework for deep-learning-based SCA, with which we reproduce a selection of previous results and build upon them in an attempt to improve their performance. Nanocrystallized ceria-based coatings prepared by electrochemistry on TA6V titanium alloy

Nanocrystallized ceria-based coatings were prepared on TA6V titanium alloy by using a three-step procedure: substrate pretreatment, electrochemical impregnation and final heat treatment. UV–vis and Raman in situ spectroscopies performed at the substrate interface during the electrochemical impregnation, showed experimentally for the first time that the interfacial deposit is made up of cerium hydroxide, incorporating also water molecules and nitrate ions coming from the electrolyte. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated also that the composition of the coating after the impregnation is given by the global formula CeO23.4H2O, while XRD analysis revealed that ceria with cubic fluorite crystalline structure is finally produced. Different preparation conditions were studied in view to control the nanosize of the supported ceria crystallites. It appeared that the final heat treatment is the most efficient operational parameter for the tuning of the particle size, that it can be thus well controlled from 5 to 30 nm between 300 and 700 8C

Précarité, temporalités et conciliation travail-famille chez les musiciens baroques montréalais

S’est développé à Montréal, depuis la fin des années 1980, un « Monde de l’art » particulier articulé autour de l’interprétation de la musique dite ancienne (de la Renaissance au début du Romantisme) sur instruments historiques. Au fil du temps, la ville est devenue un centre important en Amérique du Nord pour ce style musical. Cet article a pour but d’explorer deux aspects liés à la carrière des artistes qui évoluent dans ce monde. Il interroge une double précarité : celle inhérente à la carrière artistique, celle imposée par la spécialisation du répertoire. Cette dernière limite-t-elle les possibilités d’embauche ? Nous examinons les stratégies élaborées pour contrer cette précarité et leurs conséquences sur les temporalités professionnelles et familiales de ces artistes.Since the end of the 1980s, a singular « Art World » has been developed in Montreal. It has been articulated around the interpretation of the old music (From the Renaissance era until the beginning of the Romantism era) on period instruments. Over the years, the city has become an important center for this musical style in North America. This paper aims to explore two aspects related to the career of the artists who belong to this world. It questions a two-fold precarity problem: one that intrinsically pertains to artistic careers, and one that is compelled by specialization. Does the latter limit employment opportunities? We examine the strategies that have been created in order to counter this precarity and its consequences on these artists’ professional and family temporalities
